A Life So Changed

The following post was actually written on the evening of November 23, 2008:

Nate and I are finally climbing out of the coma that comes with bringing a newborn home, and we have finally started finding out what has been happening in the outside world during the past few weeks! As it turns out, life has, indeed, been moving on without us...but luckily, we haven't missed anything earth-shattering.

Yesterday, our little girl turned one month. How time flies, huh? Cate's growing SO FAST! I am already wishing I could slow her down because my baby is growing up! Granted, she's not even sitting up by herself yet, so I think I have a bit more time before she leaves home for college, but still... So, since Cate is one month, we took a bunch of pictures that we can compare to ones that we will take each month during her first year. Following the example of Cate's wise Aunt Sarah, we chose an object that will sit next to her when we take the pictures each month so that we can see how much she's grown. And, true to Phillips form, our object comes with an entertaining story...

Aaron and Stacy are two of our dearest friends. We have shared many memories and inside jokes with them over the past few years, and one of them revolves around our shared love for the television show How I Met Your Mother. Nate and I came home from our first post-Cate date, and I was getting her bath stuff out of our guest bathroom when I noticed a stuffed goat sitting next to the toilet. I raised an eyebrow (goats don't usually appear randomly in our house), and yelled to Nate, asking if he knew why in the world we had a stuffed goat in our bathroom. Nate popped his head around the corner and eyed the little creature. After waaaay too much thought, we figured it out. Aaron and Stacy had left it for us, providing us with a good laugh and a How I Met Your Mother reference (I'm not about to try and explain the reference to you). So, as you can imagine, Nate was dead set on making the goat, now named Ted, the object we use when taking pictures of Cate. Yes, a goat is an unusual choice. We're unusual people.
